Dear Animals: I learned to share the land. I liked the turtle best. I liked her best because she was slow. --Lisa, Grade 4
My favourite animal is the turtle. Why because she always thinks differently. The others always disagree with her. My favourite part was the end because it was a happy ending. I learned to share. --Vicki, Grade 4
As a researcher in the health sciences field, I've been guilty of looking only through my own window. Working with ETW has broadened my vision and allowed me to appreciate the issue of environmental insult to Hamilton Harbour on a much grander scale.... The environmental issue has become much more than data in a scientific journal; I now truly feel a compulsion to contribute to a cure. --Tanya, Graduate Genetics
In 1993, McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, I received a major three-year grant to fund the McMaster Eco-Research Program for Hamilton Harbour, an interdisciplinary project that focussed, from a variety of perspectives, on a study of the local ecosystem. I became involved in this project prior to 1993 as a project participant, as director of The Insect Play (which collaborated with members of the scientific community), and as the instigator of "ETW", to evolve theatrical means to disseminate information, raise awareness, and generally get people to ask questions about their local environment. Over the course of the project, ETW developed a wide variety of projects–some of the results of which are presented here as an anthology.
