Biographies
Stephen Johnson (Dramaturg and Producer)
Stephen is delighted to be involved in FOOT for the fourth time in seven years. With his company, Handmade Performance, he has co-created, written or directed a variety of productions around Toronto, including A Little Grief, Faker, an adaptation of Karel and Josef Capek’s The Insect Play, The Last Judgement (last of the PLS York Mystery Cycle in 1998), Prometheus Bound, and Doctor Faustus. His play about the dancer Juba (based on the same source material used for the present co-creation) was produced for CBC Radio; stage and radio versions are available from the Playwrights Guild. He also created and ran ETW (the Environmental Theatre Workshop) in Hamilton for several years, where he wrote and directed a children’s play, Six Puppets and a Fish, and produced a range of theatre and dance. He’s a faculty member at the University of Toronto at Mississauga and in the Graduate Centre for Study of Drama, University of Toronto.
Jennifer Johnson (Co-Creator, Performer, Facilitator)
Jennifer has choreographed, performed and taught extensively throughout Toronto’s arts community and internationally. Her unique fusion of theatre and movement has been presented in a wide variety of performance venues including the Fringe Festival of Independent Dance (fFIDA), “Red” Cabaret, 8:08, Small Potatoes and through her own co-created company SAGA Productions. She has choreographed for theatre productions by Upstart Crow, Amicus Productions, Handmade Performance, Shmigeggy and Red Letter Theatre. In her performance career Jennifer has created with and appeared in pieces by Viv Moore, The Parahumans, Reaching Symmetries, Nicole Fougére, Raoul Trujillo, Canboulay Dance Theatre and Higher Ground Stilt Theatre Co. Jennifer is a member of the Canadian Alliance of Dance Artists.
